Ladies and Gentlemen I have the immense pleasure to present the first post on our new blog A Mother'Secrets!! So this first post is about "The day I found out I was pregnant".
Here you go... scissors out... cut the ribbon!!
As it is our first post I am aware that the format can require improvement and I will value all suggestions, so please leave a comment to tell me what you think.

A trip to the toilet that changes your life
Harry Potter and the trip to the toilet
I took Top Ender to the cinema yesterday and as is usual in our household we both paid a visit to the toilet before we left our house. It reminded me of a trip to the toilet that I made on a Wednesday in April 2003 before Daddy and I (then just plain old Him and Me) went to see Johnny English.
Daddy and I had been trying for a baby for what seemed like ages, and had decided to stop trying and just let nature take its course. If I became pregnant then so be it. If I didn't, well then we would take the next step then.

When seeing dancing animals in the bedroom is a really good sign
Surgery Pest
I went to see my long-suffering GP again today, who I am sure thinks I am slightly unhinged. I don’t know what pregnancy/birth/baby has done to me, but before any of this, I never ever saw a doctor, about anything. However, since then, I have frequented the surgery more times than I care to remember.
My relationship with the staff at the surgery (which includes GPs, midwives, nurses, receptionists, even other patients) began on the happiest day of my life, 31st March 2006.
I was standing in my classroom, during an open-day, chatting to a heavily pregnant parent about how broody I was feeling, when suddenly I went weak in the legs and felt dizzy. That was the moment, whilst the parent was telling me not to rush into it and enjoy being married, that I knew. I phoned Tom, and said: ‘I think we’ve bloody well done it, I think I’m pregnant!’

First month try and score (with the help of Super Sperm!) and an ectopic pregnancy scare
Week 5
My period was due last Saturday but there was no sign of it. I wondered for a while then decided that actually i think it had been coming a day late each time so it probably came on Sunday last month so it would be Monday this month. I seem to have aches in my belly, just like period pain so I am fully expecting a humdinger at any time. By Monday with no period I am getting a little twitchy.

Three years and 2 miscarriages later
Planning a family doesn't always go to plan
If you’d been in a certain branch of Starbucks in Berkshire on Monday afternoon you may have noticed a slightly dishevelled pregnant woman on the comfy sofa in the corner eating a Rocky Road cake. She’d managed to cordon off a small area with a squashy seat and pushchair to barricade in her escaping toddler. She could be overheard explaining to her eldest son that if everyone jumped on the chairs in Starbucks there would be nothing left for people to sit on. She may have forgotten to brush her hair that morning. There were probably dried rusk stains on her trousers.
This is probably the image I present to the outside world. One glance and you may think I could produce children at the drop of a hat. This isn’t necessarily true. A few years ago I would never have dreamt the above description would be me. Husband and I were trying for a baby but nothing was happening for us.
It took me three years to get pregnant with Podge.

It wasn’t meant to happen then
It started with a Kiss...
... I never thought it would come to this!
Well actually, I suspect it started with a few glasses of red wine and a careless night in the bedroom!
Picture the scene - no not us in the bedroom, lets move on from that - but this scene.... a young couple (okay, well a couple of 30 and 31) madly in love, engaged to get married, have it all planned out, but kids are not on the agenda not just yet, they're happy as they are. Both have new jobs. Mr has just been posted on a brand new ship in the Royal Navy, Mrs has just started a creative design job. Just started.

Never used to feel very broody until a baby lamb touched her life
The day that changed my life
This is a secret, albeit an old one. ...
I was never really sure if I wanted to have children or not. Yes shocking isn't it .
I was 34 when I eventually got married and was under huge pressure from my Father in law to produce an heir. The ego of the man was amazing.
I had lived with someone in Spain previously for five years. Who had left his girlfriend, not long after the birth of their son. As in his words. She had become the mother of his child and no longer sexy. More of a wife, than his girlfriend.
Being young and intoxicated by this man. It didn't occur to me that, he was possibly suffering from huge commitment issues or maybe even just terribly selfish.
It only served as a huge deterrent to me to get pregnant.
So roll on 10 years.

A wedding, a honeymoon and a miscarriage
My Pregnancy Story
It was about a fortnight before my wedding day and everything was going to plan. I'd picked up my dress, arranged my hair and make up appointment and had had a fantastic hen night. I didn't feel jittery or stressed or any of those other feelings a bride to be is supposed to feel...well except for very excited to be marrying my gorgeous husband to be. My perfect man! It was the beginning of July and we were due to get married on 15Th July 2006. One evening, I'd noticed I was having really bad cramps and thought my period must be due to come however after a few days and no aunt Flo and still cramping, I phoned the DRs. They send out the on call DR because I was so sore and she asked if I had done a pregnancy test. The thought had never crossed my mind, I thought I was just my cycle was out after having recently come off the pill. The DR came out to me at around 9 in the evening and after she left, husband to be and I jumped in the car and headed to the 24 Asda to buy a pregnancy test.

5 Years of trying, a party and a sneeze
The Thin Pink Line(s)
Ed and I had been trying for a baby for 5 years. We had been trying for so long that I think both of us thought it would never happen for us. Even friends had made us God Parents to lots of their offspring, which was nice of them but did feel like a bit of a consolation prize!
I think for a number of years I personally kept Clear Blue in business, as in a cruel twist every few months over the five years my period would be late (sometimes by two weeks), and of course we would get excited, only to have the knock back of a negative test, shortly followed by Mother Natures gift.
In the end, a very good friend of mine bought me a bumper pack, as a gift-may seem mean, but she was my closest girlfriend and wanted us to get our wish more than we did.

A wedding, an interview and a positive test
One Fateful Day of July
It is July 2006. I'd been in Germany for a week. Not on holiday, nonono, not this time, not even to visit friends and family. Some time ago the decision was made that since we'd be living in Scotland for the foreseeable future, at least we should get married in Germany, to give everyone in Scotland a chance to find out where the bride came from. We also happened to find the perfect place for the perfect wedding's afters, not to be beaten by all the fancy castles, ships, and posh houses at extortionate prices which you can pick from closer to home, err Scotland.

Two babies storyPee + Two blue lines = Pregnant
My husband, R, and I decided back in 2005 that next year would be the year we would try for a family, so dutifully packed as much “last chance” stuff in as possible into 2005 arriving hung-over but ciggie and contraception free in 2006!
We both worked away from home and each other a lot at the time, add to that a series of skiing trips, stag and hen do’s and our main conception challenge was our work and social lives! Anyway it was the August bank holiday weekend and we had good friends coming up from London to stay for the weekend, a long time planned weekend and hugely anticipated bender, always fabulous times. I felt fine, but I had noticed a metallic taste in my mouth for a few days (I had the books so knew this could be an early pregnancy symptom). That said we were 7-8 months down the line of this trying for a baby business (closer to 12 months and a trip to the doctor for further investigations, than only just started) and I was silently aware that I may be starting to imagine pregnancy symptoms, in other words desperation was secretly, silently starting to creep in!

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and birthday celebrations
An unexpected birthday present
July is my favourite month. Not only are the market stalls laden with juicy strawberries and sweet melons, it is also the month of summer holidays, ice cream and BBQs. Oh, and it is my birthday in July, too.
While thinking of what to do this year, I was remembering last year’s birthday celebrations. All very well planned in secret by Big M to surprise me, the celebrations turned out to be a lot calmer than arranged for – the champagne remained unopened and the sushi untouched, as we were hit by an even bigger surprise just the day before.
When I went to see my gynaecologist earlier last year, I just wanted to make sure everything was alright. I didn’t expect anything out of the ordinary. Yes, my periods had been irregular or even completely absent – sometimes for more than three months. But I put it down to the fact that I had had a tough time and my lifestyle had been rather unbalanced – work hard play hard in the true sense of the word.
I had scans before. And I could tell straight away that something wasn’t quite right. My ovaries looked like someone had pointed a shotgun on them. The doctor asked me, if I knew what Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) was.

Three Baby Stories
I - Long time, no see!
It has been ages since I last wrote anything! Three months in fact. I have been rather busy, with uni coming to a close, and other things.....
I found out I am pregnant! HID and I were over the moon. We both knew it before we did a test, we'd been trying since October, and I stared throwing up about 2 weeks before my period was due....took a test a week later before HID woke up. I waited the full 3 mins, like it says on the box, but the result was obvious staright away. I climbed back into bed, not realising how much I was shaking! So much HID woke up and asked what was wrong! He has never hugged me so tightly as he did that day.

II - Pregnancy symptoms strike again
Over Easter weekend, my boy developed some long awaited (by me) skills in the walking department (I am most unwilling to carry one baby on each hip in the presence of a toddler that doesn't actually toddle). So to celebrate/hone his new skills, we high-tailed it to the nearest beach, where we were pleasantly surprised to find a wide expanse of short, flat grass leading down to the sand, filled with picnicking, playing families. A perfect place for toddle-practice.
When little legs could waddle no more, a pub lunch was in order, to satiate our growing belly-growls, so we popped into a quiet-looking place, and I ordered fish and chips for me, and bangers and mash for HID (the idea being Boy would share a little of both), while Boy got a tour of the pub, concentrating mostly on the flashing lights of the bandits.

III - Bun in The Oven
About ten weeks ago, when HID and I had thrown (pre)caution(s) to the wind for approximately three weeks, with regards to expanding our little family, I'd had enough of the nagging, and had agreed to take a pregnancy test. He was right, my period was late, but I just wanted to relax and go with the flow this time we were trying to get pregnant, and not becoming the scary, uptight nutter who thought she'd never conceive.
So when I climbed the stairs, and he called softly after me: "Don't worry if it's not positive." I replied, "I won't..." and added inside my own head, "...because I already know I'm pregnant." And I was!
